Grêmio badge meaning and origin

Grêmio’s badge is a blue-and-black circular escudo with a thin white outline, topped by three separate stars in bronze, silver and gold. A black outer ring carries the white inscriptions “1903,” “GRÊMIO” and “FBPA,” while the inner circle resembles a football, with sky-blue and white panels crossed by a thick black band; the founding year “1903” appears in black on the upper white panel and “FBPA” on the lower one, with “GRÊMIO” in bold white across the centre.

The ball-shaped crest has its roots in 1920s designs and was standardised in the 1963 redesign that fixed the tricolour blue-black-white scheme.  The stars, added in 1985, now symbolise national (bronze), continental (silver) and world (gold) honours.
