SC Heerenveen’s badge is a blue shield with a white border, filled with diagonal white bands and six red heart-shaped symbols, with a blue sash across the centre carrying the white inscription “sc Heerenveen.” The design is directly lifted from the flag of Friesland, which also uses blue and white diagonal stripes decorated with red pompeblêden – stylised yellow water-lily leaves that resemble hearts.  In medieval heraldry these pompeblêden represented the Frisian “sea lands,” later becoming a broader emblem of Frisian identity and pride.  

By adopting the flag’s pattern wholesale, the crest presents Heerenveen explicitly as the standard-bearer of Friesland, with the club’s nameband simply laid over a provincial symbol that predates the team itself.
