Botafogo Futebol Clube’s badge is a black shield with a white outline and the club’s red initials “BFC” in the centre. The top of the shield is shaped into a red five-pointed star, giving the Ribeirão Preto club a distinctive variation of the wider Botafogo visual family.
The initials stand for Botafogo Futebol Clube, while the red, black and white palette identifies the club as the Tricolor of Ribeirão Preto. The club was founded in Vila Tibério, Ribeirão Preto, on 12 October 1918, after the merger of three local sides: União Paulistano, Tiberense and Ideal Football Club.
The name Botafogo was chosen during the foundation discussions, with club accounts preserving the story of the phrase “bota fogo” helping settle the debate. The badge also visually separates the São Paulo club from Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas, whose famous lone star is white.
Across its history, Botafogo-SP has used several shield variations, but the black field, red star and BFC initials remain the core of its identity.
