Sporting Clube de Portugal’s badge is a green shield with white horizontal stripes, the words “Sporting” and “Portugal,” and a smaller central shield containing a gold rampant lion. The large “SCP” initials sit above the main shield like a crown.
The lion is the club’s defining symbol. Sporting’s official badge history traces the first lion emblem to 1907, when Casa Anjos of Lisbon presented a circular green badge with a rampant lion and the initials SCP. The lion was taken from the heraldry of Dom Fernando de Castelo Branco, while green became the club colour instead of blue.
Sporting was founded in Lisbon in 1906, and the badge evolved through several major versions. A shield with a white lion on green arrived in 1913, followed by later refinements in 1930 and 1945 that kept the lion and SCP initials central.
The current badge was introduced in 2001, adding the full words “Sporting” and “Portugal” and turning the lion gold while preserving the club’s historic green-and-white identity.
