Crystal Palace’s badge shows a blue eagle with outstretched wings perched on a football above the façade of the Crystal Palace exhibition hall, all framed in a red-and-blue shield with “Crystal Palace F.C.” and the founding year 1861.

The Victorian glass building recalls the club’s origins on the old palace site and the original nickname “The Glaziers,” a nod to local glass-workers.

In the 1970s manager Malcolm Allison overhauled the club’s image, switching colours and introducing the eagle—borrowed from Benfica—as a more aggressive symbol and inspiring the modern nickname “The Eagles.”

Later redesigns in 1987, 1996 and 2012 refined the palace-and-eagle motif, while a 2022 tweak replaced 1905 with 1861 to reflect research tying the professional side to an earlier Crystal Palace club.
