Atlético Madrid’s badge is a pointed shield split between red-and-white vertical stripes and a blue canton showing a bear rearing against a strawberry tree beneath seven white stars. The stripes echo the club’s colchonero shirts, while the upper panel is lifted directly from Madrid’s coat of arms, with the bear, madroño tree and stars symbolising the capital and its surrounding provinces.

First adopted in 1917 to replace an Athletic Bilbao-style crest, this city-derived design has been repeatedly refined but never abandoned, even through the winged, crowned versions that followed the post–Civil War merger with the air force club.

The latest, sleeker 2017 update simplified colours and repositioned the bear, sparking a fan backlash and ultimately a 2023 member vote to restore the historic shield as of 2024.
