Atlas FC’s badge shows a shield divided vertically into red and black halves, with a large white letter “A” running through the centre. The current version is a minimalist form of the club’s long-running identity, focused on the initial, the shield and the traditional rojinegro colour split.
The club was founded in Guadalajara in 1916 by a group of young men who had studied in Europe, including at Ampleforth College in England. The name Atlas refers to the Titan from Greek mythology, chosen after founder Juan José “Lico” Cortina linked the idea to carrying or supporting the world.
The red and black colours come from the founders’ school background and its association with Saint Lawrence, patron saint of Ampleforth. Those colours became the basis of the club’s nickname, “Los Rojinegros.”
Atlas’s badge has changed in detail over time, but the white “A” over the red-and-black shield has remained the club’s defining visual symbol.
