Significado y origen del escudo de Oxford United

Oxford United’s badge is a yellow shield with a stylised navy ox’s head above subtle vertical pinstripes and the words “OXFORD UNITED” in a blue band at the top. The ox is a direct reference to the city’s name and coat of arms, which depict an ox fording a river – a visual pun on “Ox-ford” that goes back to medieval seals.

The modern, mask-like head was created in 1979 by anthropologist and club director Desmond Morris, who based it on a simplified Minoan bull so it could be easily reproduced.

The latest shield, introduced in the 2000s and refined since, adds the pinstripe background as a nod to historic kits and to Headington United roots, turning the iconic ox into a clean, contemporary symbol of city and club.
